Ebola Relief Efforts: Standard Textile Responds

The National Organization of Sierra Leoneans in North America (NOSLINA), in partnership with the Sierra Leone Embassy in the U.S., has recently recognized Standard Textile for donating materials to assist with combating the Ebola virus that has ravaged the nation of Sierra Leone. Standard Textile blankets, bed sheets, and pillow cases are being distributed to parts of Sierra Leone that are in most dire need and have been the most severely impacted by the virus and its lingering effects.

Standard Textile’s donation was part of a team effort from individual and corporate partners across the U.S. Approximately 4,750 pounds (a total of 9 skids, weighing between 425 and 785 pounds each) of urgently needed materials were transported to Sierra Leone through the coordination of Airlink, a 24/7 disaster response organization that links pre-vetted NGO’s with airlines for air and cargo transportation.

The Sierra Leone Ministry of Health; the World Health Organization (WHO); the dedicated Ebola Emergency Operations Center at the WHO Country Office in Sierra Leone; and the Office of the President of Sierra Leone are working together to ensure that the donated items are expeditiously put to good use.

In a message of acknowledgement, Dr. Brima Kargbo, Chief Medical Officer of Sierra Leone, shared his appreciation of NOSLINA’s coordination efforts by stating: “On behalf of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to NOSLINA for this wonderful gesture. The items are coming at a time when we needed them most. I would also want to assure all that they will be adequately distributed.”
