Design plays a powerful role in how we experience the world, shaping everything from comfort and care to performance and longevity. At Standard Textile, that belief drives the way we approach product development across the markets we serve, always with both our customers and the end users in mind.
One of the people guiding that approach is Isaiah Hemmingway, Director of Design. Overseeing both our design and technical design teams, Isaiah brings together creative vision and real-world performance to develop textiles that deliver lasting impact for patients, caregivers, guests, and operators alike.
Our conversation with Isaiah touched on the intention behind good design, the people it serves, and the kind of leadership that creates lasting impact.
You lead both the design and technical design teams at Standard Textile. How does that collaboration shape the we create?
“Leading both the design and technical teams at Standard Textile helps us blend creativity with practicality. This collaborative team ensures our products are both innovative and functional.”
When you think about everyone who interacts with our textiles, from guests and patients to housekeepers and hospital staff, what does thoughtful design mean to you?
“Thoughtful design involves crafting textile products that boost guest comfort and operational efficiency for our business partners. By prioritizing durability, easy maintenance, and user-friendly features, we help streamline daily tasks for staff and elevate overall customer satisfaction.”
You mentor young creatives outside of work. What motivates that commitment, and how does it reflect your values as a designer and leader?
“My commitment to mentoring young creatives is fueled by remembering my own journey, when I was eager and passionate about turning ideas into tangible products. As a designer, I deeply value collaboration and the exchange of ideas. By sharing my knowledge with aspiring talents, I believe we are collectively shaping a more inspiring and innovative world.”
Through his work and mentorship, Isaiah shows how design can create comfort, inspire connection, and make a difference.
